March 15 is International Long COVID Awareness Day. NYC was an early pandemic epicenter, and countless New Yorkers now face Long COVID without FDA-approved treatments or diagnostic biomarkers. Signing this petition tells New York City to join Los Angeles and other cities around the world in recognizing Long COVID as a historic struggle, and that we want City Hall to light up in teal on March 15 in observance. New York should join Los Angeles and the global community in officially recognizing March 15 as International Long COVID Awareness Day and lighting City Hall in teal to recognize the historic struggle that is impacting an estimated 400 million people worldwide.
NYC was the epicenter of the pandemic in its early months. Countless New Yorkers have been devastated by losses in lives, jobs, and businesses. Countless people continue to struggle with their disabilities and lost health due to Long COVID.
We call on New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to designate March 15 as International Long Covid Awareness Day in New York and direct the illumination of New York City Hall in teal.
We hope this action will become an annual recognition and we hope New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Councilmembers of New York will also sponsor this ceremonial recognition.
